Common AC Problems in the Summer Heat

Common-AC-Problems-in-the-Summer-Heat-5aff3cb85548a

As summer temperatures approach, it’s important to make sure that your air conditioner is ready for the demand that you’re going to place upon it. You want your home to be comfortable all season long, but as the temperature increases, your AC unit could have a hard time keeping up. At Lamco Systems in Merrimack Valley, we can diagnose and repair your air conditioner problems, and it’s important to be aware of what can go wrong during those hottest days of the year.

1. Faulty Capacitor

The capacitor inside your AC unit is there to help the fan, the compressor, and the blower motor start up when you turn on your cooling system. It dispels its charge right away to get the system running, and on those hot summer days, it might be used countless times. If the capacitor goes bad, then there will be no power for the blower, fan, or compressor to use. This can lead to the inside of your home warming up very quickly.

2. Fan Not Spinning

As your AC runs all day during the summer, the fan on the air handler is spinning. This fan is what pushes the cold air into your home’s ductwork, and if it stops spinning, then your house is going to warm up in little to no time at all. The fan is operated by a pulley on a drive belt that’s linked to a motor, and if the belt breaks or the motor fails, then the fan won’t spin. This is an issue that needs to be remedied as soon as possible, and the team at Lamco can take care of everything.

3. Condensation Problems

As the warm outside air passes over the evaporator coils in your system, the evaporator cools the air, creating condensation. This moisture is caught by the condensate drain pan in your AC unit, and it drains through a line that carries the condensation away from the unit. If there’s a problem with the drain pan, such as cracking or rust damage, or the drain line is plugged, then that excess moisture can build up and cause issues inside the unit. On those hot days when the air conditioner is running from morning to evening, there can be a lot of condensation that is created by your evaporator coils.

These are just a few examples of what can happen to your AC unit on those summer days when the temperature starts creeping higher and higher. If you’re concerned about the state of your cooling system, or you’re ready to replace your old air conditioner, then contact Lamco Systems today and we’ll make sure that you receive the service that you need.
